Carbon nanostructures for advanced biomedical, environmental and magnetic applications

The lecture will introduce synthetic approaches, properties and great application potential of nanomaterials based on carbon quantum dots and graphene derivatives. Possibilities of controlling photoluminescence properties of carbon dots and their utilization will be discussed, such as in marking and monitoring living cells temperature or in advanced methods of medical diagnostics and therapy.  Graphene functionalization methods will be demonstrated on the examples of fluorography enabling a preparation of a variety of new 2D materials usable as room carbon magnets, sensitive biomolecule sensors, or high performance sorbents for water purification.
